Hello,

I am the owner of F-106 Delta Dart The Ultimate Interceptor website.  I have several photo's listed of the F-106 escorting the Bears.  I think the above photo of the 119th FIS "Jersey Devils" is from my site.

Here are two others:

This is F-106A 59-0060 from the 159th FIS "Fang" Jacksonville ANG, FL.  Visit my 159th FIS webpage at 159th FIS "Fang" Jacksonville ANG, FL
http://www.f-106deltadart.com/159fis/159_bear.jpg

This is an F-106A from the 87th FIS "Red Bulls" K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI.  Visit my 87th FIS webpage at 87th FIS "Red Bulls" K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI
http://www.f-106deltadart.com/87fis/bear_intercept-2.jpg

This is an F-106 also from the 87th FIS "Red Bulls" K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI

Patrick, can you comment on F-106's squadrons on your photos? What squadron are you from?

Very interesting pictures!!!  I started my career as navigator only in 1990 and have never met F-106. But some time ago, I purchased "Wings of fame" with article about F -102 Delta Dagger.

Hello guys.

I spent 26 years in the US Air Force, 7 years on the F-106 Delta Dart in several different squadrons to include the 87th FIS, 5th FIS, 84th FIS, 318th FIS.  Click on my website at http://www.f-106deltadart.com/home.htm for lots and lots of detail on the F-106 and all its FIS Units.

Patrick,  one of the books under the link is named Ladies in Waiting. Just a linguistic question to you - does it mean that it's a kind of name for your aircrafts, or is it only meant for some special machines, or just a nice metaphor for this very case?
Thank you.

Patrick, have you intercepted Tu-95?

Your F-106 site is great!

In this case it's a metaphor.  It signifies the "ladies" (aircraft) that are sitting in the boneyard, the mothballs for old aircraft.  The ladies are in waiting... waiting to be resurrected, waiting to be purchased by a private owner, waiting to be taken to a museum for display and things like that.

No I have not.  I was not a pilot in the Air Force, although I am a private pilot, I was an aircraft technician retiring after 26 years and at the rank of E-9, Chief Master Sgt, the highest rank in the US Air Force.

Haha, that's too funny.  What a small world it is yes?  I do the same thing sometimes.  I'm looking at one thing and not paying attention to something else right beside it.  That's a good book though right?

Since I don't read the language (I assume it's Russian) I can't read under your names where you guys are from.  Where are your homes?  I mean what cities or towns.

I have finished military service in 2000 and now live in Estonia, Tallinn. Now I work in estonian airline and some time have additional business ( "haltura", don't confuse with "haljava"!!!) .  :D  Series of "Wings of fame" is really great. This book series  include so much very interesting information, high quality pictures and schemes! High class issue!

I'm living near Plesetsk (russian space centre) now. My father was an AF officer (technician, now retired too) and we changed two places of service - Lahta AFB (near Arhangelsk, it was the base of Tu-16 Badger) and Kipelovo AFB.

Patrick, where are you from? The USA is the big country too...

Yes the US is a big place too.  I'm from Monterey, California.  That's where the famous  Pebble Beach golf course is?  Do you guys play golf?

to edge:

I am sure you have many pictures of Lahta. Could I please have some of them, as that's exactly the place where I was born?

Patrick, thanks for the explanation.

No, I have never played golf. It isn't such a popular game in Russia. There are some places for golf in Moscow and a few in other cities. I sure a snow golf can be more popular here...

Patrick, are F-106 and F-106 were really different aircrafts? Or it was a marketing ruse?

KiS is right :D but you probably mean F-102 Delta Dagger and F-106 Delta Dart, right?

Yes, they were much different aircraft, while at the same time being very similar.  One of the biggest difference is the F-102 was not Supersonic.

This is an exerp from my Specifications Page at http://www.f-106deltadart.com/specs.htm

The F-106 Delta Dart is a supersonic, all-weather interceptor.  Originally envisioned as an advanced derivative of the F-102A Delta Dagger and given the designation F-102B, the "Ultimate Interceptor", as it was known, entailed such extensive changes that in June, 1956, the designation was changed to F-106.   It was designed from the ground up as an Interceptor and nothing but an interceptor.   Originally designated the F-102B, it was re-designated the F-106 due to it's extensive structural changes and the more powerful Pratt & Whitney J57 engine.

Patrick, F-102, of course. Thanks.

What is "C/C SSGT" rank? I saw it on the F-4 cocpit's photo.

LOL, yea we figured.

C/C usually stands for Crew Chief, which is the primary technician who is permanently assigned to the aircraft.  It's not a rank.  The SSgt is the rank for Staff Sergeant, which is an E-5 in the USAF.

Patrick, I have a question: Are the USAF or civilians have a maintenance regulations JAR? or different??

The USAF?  No.

But everything non-military is governed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the regulations used are called Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR).  Here's some websites:
